Pakistani attacked in NY

NEW YORK, Nov 5: The Pakistani community in Brooklyn (New York) is in an uproar after three Jewish students brutally assaulted a Pakistani man on Friday while he was coming out of a mosque. They were charged with hate crimes.

Police said on Saturday that 17-year-old Youssi Friedman and two 16-year-olds are charged with the attack. They punched 24-year-old Shahid Amber, breaking his nose. They are accused of attacking Shahid because of his religion.

"Obviously he's stunned," said Israel Fried, Friedman's lawyer.

Mohammed Razvi who heads a Brooklyn Pakistani organisation told newsmen on Saturday that despite the attack, Jewish and Muslim leaders are talking and not overreacting.

On Avenue M, where the attack happened, Jewish residents say they are just as upset as the Pakistanis about what happened.
