ISLAMABAD, Nov 4: Shams-ul-Islam of Pakistan continued his impressive run in the Chief of Air Staff International squash championship when he eliminated compatriot Farhan Mehboob at the Mushaf Squash Complex on Saturday to reach semi-finals.
Shams defeated Farhan 11-9, 5-11, 11-10 (8-6), 11-7, 11-3 after a 53-minute battle that extended to five games.
Top-seed Borja Golan of Spain and Englishman Joey Barrington also made it to the semi-finals.
The Spaniard beat Egyptian Omer Masaad in straight games 11-4, 11-9, 11-10 in 61 minutes while the Englishman knocked out Kashif Shuja of New Zealand 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8 in 60 minutes.
In the last quarter-final, Mansoor Zaman defeated fellow Pakistani Aamir Atlas Khan 11-5, 11-7, 5-11, 11-10.
The semi-finals will be played on Sunday and the final on Monday. Borja Golan will meet Shams-ul-Islam in the first semi-final while Mansoor Zaman face Joey Barrington in the other semi-final.—APP
