KARACHI, Nov 4: The city government will extend all possible cooperation in providing full legal assistance to women victims of domestic violence. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held between Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil and former SC Judge Nasir Aslam Zahid on Saturday.

It was decided that women and children who were displaced from their homes would be sent to “Panah Shelter Home” and provided free legal aid.

Nasreen Jalil said there was dire need for such legal centres, where particularly the women could get legal aid and consultation. She said it was imperative that women must enjoy economic stability to have a better status in society. For women development, she said, it was necessary that male folk should broaden their thinking and not consider women lower in capabilities.

The naib nazim called for doing away with the feudal system and said that the present leadership had accorded greater respect and position to women and a positive change had been brought in society in this regard.

Justice (retired) Nasir Aslam Zahid said that all preparations had been completed for the establishment of “legal call centres” which would start functioning from the next year. He said the top floor of Shaheen Complex had been hired in this regard.—APP
