CA to reconsider tri-series future
MELBOURNE, Nov 2: The one-day tournament following the Ashes in January could be the last triangular series to be staged in Australia as new formats are explored, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Thursday.
Recent series between Australia and two visiting teams have been plagued by lack of interest whenever the host nation does not play or fails to qualify for the final.
And Cricket Australia admitted there was no guarantee the format would continue after the series with England and New Zealand which starts when the world champions face the English at the MCG on Jan 12.
“We continue to look at ways in which our traditional programme, and not just One-day International cricket but Test cricket and Twenty20 cricket, can evolve and change so we can satisfy our customers' needs,” chief executive James Sutherland told reporters.
“That's what is really important to us, that cricket fans continue to get content in the appropriate format.”—Reuters
