KHAIRPUR, Nov 2: A large number of people including women and children, from many villages of union councils Pakka Chang, Karondi, Bhango Bihan, Kot Lalu, Akri Chowdagi, Kandyari of Faiz Ganj taluka, have contracted malaria.

They have been admitted to private and government hospitals.

Reports reaching here said that no fumigation had been carried out in the areas for a long time. Taluka council Faiz Gunj had passed a resolution some time back demanding fumigation in every village of the taluka but it went unheard and unnoticed.

The villagers led by Farman Ali Solangi staged a demonstration in Pakka Chang on Thursday and complained that a large number of people from their villages were suffering from malaria and they were subjected to bear the prohibitively high expenses of private hospitals where they had them admitted.

People from Kotlu village of Kotdiji taluka also staged a demonstration in protest against the outbreak of gastroenteritis in their area.

BOOKED: Mehmood Channa police booked on Thursday more than 70 people belonging to Channa community including former nazim of union council Saghiyoon and his brother on charges of pillaging the village of their rival group.

Reports reaching here said that Mohammad Saleh Kalhoro complained in an FIR filed under section 341, 17/3HO that the accused attacked Abdul Latif Kalhoro village, held the villagers hostage and took away with them buffaloes, cows and valuable household items.

The FIR identified the accused as former nazim Aijaz Bughio, Yasir Bughio, Gohar Bughio, Manthar, Abdul Rehman, Akram, Asghar, Akbar and Iqbal Channa.

Reports said that the village attack was an offshoot of a running dispute between Channa, Bughio and Kalhoro communities in Sobhodero taluka.

PROCESSION: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) staged a procession on Thursday in protest against the bombardment of a religious seminary in Bajaur agency which killed 83 people.
