LAHORE, Nov 1: Prince Charles of Wales and British heir to the Throne will visit the provincial metropolis tomorrow (Thursday) along with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on the second leg of their six-day visit to Pakistan.

According to official sources, on their arrival at the Lahore Airport, the Royal guests would be warmly welcomed by Governor Khalid Maqbool and other dignitaries.

Accompanied by the governor, the guests will visit the mausoleum of poet-philosopher Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal and 17th century Badshahi mosque.

They would also visit Gurdwara Dera Sahib where they would meet some members of the Sikh community.

Later, the royal guests would visit Lahore Cathedral where they would meet some members of the Anglican community. They would be guests at a garden reception hosted by Bishop of Lahore Dr Alexander John Malik.

Prince Charles would later attend an inter-faith meeting to be hosted by Punjab Governor at the Governor’s House.

The Royal Couple will depart for Islamabad the same day.

The city police have taken strict security measures ahead of the arrival of Prince of Wales Charles and his wife Camilla here on Thursday (today).

Besides deployment of routine as well as VVIP security, an additional police force was being deployed along the fixed routes and around the sensitive places, the city police sources informed Dawn.

The Mall Road is most likely to be used for the transportation of convoy of foreign guests and the commuters will suffer at different intervals from morning to evening because Prince Charles will visit and attend three places situated on the same road.

A high-level meeting, which met with the Capital City Police chief Khwaja Khalid Farooq in chair at the Civil Lines office, finally reviewed the security plan for the visit.—APP
