SUKKUR, Nov 1: The Shikarpur bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Zia Pervaiz and Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, ordered arrest of five accused involved in selling a married woman with the assistance of her husband and father-in-law.

The bench issued the order on Tuesday when the petition, filed by Ms Gulzar Gopang of Haji Mohammad Gopang village, came up for hearing.

The court also issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against the accused, involved in declaring the woman kari and criminally assaulting her.

The court ordered all the parties concerned to appear on November 7.

The petitioner submitted to the court through her counsel, Shafqat Hussain Shah, that she was a resident of Haji Mohammad Gopang village near Kandiaro and was married to Allah Dad Gopang. She said that three months ago, her husband Allah Dad Gopang and father-in-law Mohammad Ramzan, sold her to one Mohammad Amin for Rs100,000 and forcibly handed her over to him. She said that Mohammad Amin kept her in a room and sexually assaulted her.

She said that one day she managed to run away from the house of Mohammad Amin and met a human rights activist, Sughra Gopang, who took her to the court.

The court ordered the arrest of five people Mohammad Amin, Shahmir, Mohammad Ramzan, Aijaz and Kamal Gopang.

The police took them into custody. They were later bailed out on personal bonds of Rs50,000 each.

The court also issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against Allah Dad Gopang and landlord Sharif Gopang and fixed November 7 as the next date of hearing.

FAKE ENCOUNTER: In another case, the same bench ordered the Anti-Terrorism Court, Sukkur, to take up again a case against policemen.

These policemen had allegedly staged a fake encounter in the kutcha area of Bagarji two years back in which two brothers were killed. The double bench issued these orders on a petition filed by Ali Gul Jatoi, nephew of both the deceased, through his lawyer Manzoor Hussain Junejo, following the dismissal of the case by the Anti-Terrorism Court-I, Sukkur.

The petition was filed against 46 policemen including the DPO of Sukkur, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, SHOs Masood Mahar, Jehangir Mahar, Ghulam Hussain Dahiri and others, including a doctor of Sukkur civil hospital.

The petitioner’s counsel prayed to the court that the anti-terrorism court did not fulfil the legal requirements and neither the petitioner was heard nor the witnesses examined.

The case requires fresh proceedings to fulfil the requirements of justice, he maintain-ed.

On this, the bench ordered the anti-terrorism court to take up the case afresh and also issued notices to over 40 policemen to appear on November 15.

It may be mentioned here that two year back, police had killed two brothers, Shah Dost Jatoi and Kariman Jatoi, residents of Saeed Abad, a kutcha area of Sukkur, in a fake encounter.
