Palijo assails leaders of mainstream parties

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Nov 1: Awami Tehrik Chairman Rasool Bux Palijo has said that none of the leaders of mainstream political parties ever raised his voice for Sindh’s rights and all of them tried only to capture or retain power.

Speaking at a lecture programme organised by his party here on Tuesday night, Mr Palijo said that the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tenure saw operation in Balochistan and the NWFP and political victimisation of Pakhtun leaders. The establishment used Mr Bhutto and finally disposed him of, he said.

He charged that the 1973 Constitution, which Mr Bhutto made to serve Punjab’s interest largely benefited the bigger province.

He said that the Sindhis had not accepted Pakistan in its present form but they were in favour of Quaid-i-Azam’s Pakistan, which ensured complete autonomy for provinces.

Mr Palijo said that people of different religions had been living side by side for centuries and the Mogul period was its shining example.

He alleged that former prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan sold out the six rivers of Sindh to Punjab.

The country today had become a colony of the United States, he added.
