KARACHI: Young people susceptible


KARACHI, Nov 1: People of young age group are comparatively more inflicted with viral hemorrhagic fever in the province, reflects the data compiled at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

JPMC Deputy Director Dr Seemien Jamali in a presentation made before Federal Health Minister Mohammad Naseer Khan here on Wednesday mentioned that 80.7pc of the 238 VHF patients fell in the age group of 12 to 30 years.

95 of all these patients (39.9pc) were in the age group of 12 to 20 and 97(40.8pc) were aged between 21 and 30 years, she said mentioning that 11 belonged to 41 to 50 and only two fell in 51 to 60 years’ age group.

It was said that 80.6pc of these 238 patients fully recovered and 10 expired, 32 patients were still being treated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center from Sept 22 to Oct 31.

Mentioning that 77pc of the patients were men and 23pc women, Dr Jamali said that 13.9pc belonged to Landhi, 13pc to Korangi, 10.1pc to Malir, 6.7pc to Orangi Town and 2.9pc to Gulshan-i-Iqbal respectively.

The director of the National Institute of Child Health, Prof Afroze Ramzan, in her presentation, said 79 child patients, up to the age of 12, had been brought with dengue fever to her facility since Oct 10.

They belonged to Malir, Baldia Town, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Orangi Town and Umerkot.

Two of these children have reportedly died in 20 days, 60 (76pc) discharged after recovery and 17 (21.5pc) are still admitted. —APP
