KARACHI, Oct 31: Two activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan were sentenced on Tuesday to death for killing six employees of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) during an attack on their vehicle.
The judge also sentenced Shahnawaz alias Shani and Shaukat alias Javed alias Chand multiple terms, totalling 54 years, for injuring seven Suparco employees and damaging their vehicle.
The two SSP activists were tried for attacking the Suparco van with automatic weapons on Hub River Road on Oct 3, 2003 when it was carrying the employees for Friday prayers.
Clad in white shalwar-qameez suits, the two hand-cuffed activists stood calm and quiet with an unruffled smile on their blank faces as Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of the ATC-2 handed down the maximum punishment to them.
