KCCA chief calls for Woolmer’s sacking
KARACHI, Oct 31: The president of Karachi City Cricket Association, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah on Tuesday urged Pakistan Cricket Board to sack national coach Bob Woolmer in light of the Champions Trophy debacle in India.
“It’s deeply concerning time for PCB in scenario of team's highly disappointing performance at Mohali,” he said in a statement here. “Woolmer failed to deliver in the Champions Trophy as well as during the tour of England,” he said.“Instead of improving he (Woolmer) has destroyed the Pakistan team. Consistent failure of the openers is also a serious cause of concern for PCB and the nation,” he observed.
“With the World Cup just over four months away, Woolmer is unable to raise the standard of the team and failed to create a balance squad for the global event,” he said.
“If no remedial steps are taken now, Pakistan can suffer the same fate in the forthcoming series against West Indies,” he noted.
He expressed the hope that PCB’s new chairman, Dr Nasim Ashraf, will immediately launch his plan in interest of the nation and the team.
“Foreign coaches of both Pakistan and India failed to improve the performance of the two teams. Despite playing in their own conditions Pakistan and India failed to reach semi-finals of the Champions Trophy,” he added.
Pakistan after beating Sri Lanka in their opening match went down to both New Zealand and South Africa in Group ‘B’.
He called upon the PCB to utilize the services of former stars like Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Mohammad or Asif Iqbal as coach of the national team instead of depending on foreigners.
Similarly, the Indians can take advantage of Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath or Ravi Shastri as coach of their national team, he added.—APP
