KGC elects office-bearers

KARACHI, Oct 31: A new managing committee of Karachi Golf Club (KGC) was elected on Tuesday to run its affairs for the year 2006-07. Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Mohammad Afzal Tahir held the post of patron while Commander Karachi vice-admiral S.V. Naqvi serves as president of the KGC.

Those who were elected to the managing committee include Aslam R. Khan (vice-president); Farouq H. Rahimtoola (club captain); Zaheer Chaudhry (vice-captain); Durdana Soomro (lady captain); Commanding Officer PN Bahadur Cdre K.H.B. Siddiqui, Commanding Officer PN Karsaz Cdre Khalid Owais (ex-officio members); Cdre Saleem Akhtar, Cdre Khawar Ali, Cdre Zaheer Chaudhry (CNS nominees).

Convenors of sub committees: Khalid Ali (treasurer/finance); Cdre Saleem Akhtar (course and equipment maintenance); Farouq H. Rahimtoola (greens); Zaheer Choudhry (projects); Cdre K.H.B. Siddiqui (legal rules and bye-laws); Irfan Nadeem (marketing); Ahmed Abdul Bari (tournaments, pro and caddies); Masood Ahmed Shaikh (catering and club house); S. Sibte A. Jafri (handicap, bridge and billiards).

Farouq H. Rahimtoola secured highest number of 138 votes followed by Aslam R. Khan (128).

A total of 196 votes were cast out of which three were declared invalid. KGC has a strength of approximately 600 to 700 permanent members.

The annual general body meeting was held on Tuesday with KGC president, vice admiral S.V. Naqvi in the chair.
