Householder, robber injured

LAHORE, Oct 31: A robber and a householder were injured during an encounter between outlaws and the police in Liaqatabad area here on Tuesday evening. Five armed men barged into Akram’s house (233-S) at Bahar Colony on Tuesday evening and held his family members at gunpoint.

In the meantime, Akram Khan’s son contacted emergency 15 and soon a police team reached the house.

The police asked the robbers through mega phones to surrender but they opened fire on the police which was retaliated.

Both sides traded fire for some time as a result of which Akram and an unidentified robber sustained injuries.

The police succeeded in nabbing four robbers, including the injured, while the fifth managed his escape empty-handed.

The injured were rushed to the Lahore General Hospital from where the robber was shifted to another hospital while Akram’s condition was stated to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, two robbers were captured by Muhafiz force when they were escaping after looting cash from a general store in Shadbagh area here on Tuesday.

Police said Zahid Manzoor and Afzaal stormed into Ali General Store at Round Garden Shadbagh Market and demanded cash and cell phone from the store owner.

After snatching Rs15,000 in cash and a cell phone they escaped on a bike and in the meantime four Muhafiz force personnel present there were alerted by some neighbours.

They chased the robbers and managed to intercept them at some distance.

According to a police spokesman, the capital city police chief, appreciating the efforts of the policemen, has announced cash and certificates for them.

Two armed people intercepted Zafar in Sattokatla area and snatched Rs25,000 in cash, cell phone and a car while as many robbers deprived a citizen of Rs35,000 in cash and two cell phones in Awan Town, Nishtar Colony.

Unidentified robbers took away Rs30,000 in cash and a cell phone from a citizen in Lytton Road area.

Three armed car-riders deprived two traders Misal Khan and Abdullah Khan of Rs300,000 in cash in Rang Mahal.

ARRESTED: Nawankot police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a thief and recovered stolen cars and motorcycles from his possession.

A special team, headed by the Nawankot SPO, apprehended Zahid Mahmood when he was going on a stolen car.
