Revenue figures delayed

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: The CBR has delayed the announcement of the revenue collection figures for the first month (October 2006) of second quarter of the fiscal year 2006-07.

Informed sources told Dawn on Tuesday that the CBR, perhaps for the first time, had failed in announcing its monthly revenue collection figures on October 31 as it might be facing certain shortfall.

The sources said that the major reason for the delay was that the CBR had collected taxes in advance from some of big taxpayers along with the income tax returns filed before and on September 30, 2006.

The adjustment of the advance taxes against the liabilities of these taxpayers would result in low revenue collection figures in the forthcoming months of the current fiscal, the source added.

The CBR Official Spokesman Habib Fakhrudin told Dawn that the collection figures were not announced on Tuesday due to the non-availability of the revenue collection data from all collectorates and commissionerates due to Eid holidays.
