BAHAWALPUR, Oct 30: Four out-going students of the Islamia University Engineering College have filed a writ petition with the Bahawalpur bench of the Lahore High Court, seeking closure of the college which has not so far been recognized by the Pakistan Engineering Council(PEC).
Admitting the petition, Mr Justice Khalid Alvi directed the university and PEC to submit their replies within 14 days.
The petitioners — engineers Muhammed Jasim, Abdul Karim, Muhammed Majid Aneas and Muhammed Imran — submitted that the college was established in 1999 for B.Sc engineering degree, which was yet to get PEC approval.
Due to the non-recognition of their degrees, they added, they faced unemployment as students of three batches from this college could not get jobs. Now, they added, computer engineering courses were being introduced in the college which was a violation of the PEC act.
