KARACHI: IHD on top among 10 killer heart diseases

KARACHI, Oct 30: The medical science and health care professionals are currently exposed to a paradigm shift with major focus on prevention and efficient diagnostic skills.

The fact was highlighted by the experts speaking at the first national coronary angiography symposium hosted by the NICVD in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Non-Invasive Cardiovascular here on Sunday.

Local and foreign speakers observed that under the new paradigm ‘superior doctors’ were categorised as those who could prevent disease. They further referred to the constant progress being made in diagnostic technology.

The approach was stated to be extremely pertinent in the backdrop of the fact that the Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) tops the list of the 10 worldwide mega killers, contributory to 13.7 per cent mortality rate of all deaths across the globe.

The speakers included Dr Dieter Ropers, Dr Habibur Rehman, Mark Hansen, Prof Javaid Asghar, Dr Zia Faruqui, Prof Azhar Masood Farooqui and Dr Rashid Ahmed.
