KARACHI, Oct 30: The Pakistan Medical Association has criticised irregularities and mismanagement by the authorities concerned in conducting the entry test for admission to the Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College and on the reciprocal seats in the LUMHS.

In a press release issued here on Monday, it observed that a large number of students having secured 84-90 per cent marks in the HSC exams were denied admissions after the so-called entry test.

It is worth mentioning here that the result of the entry test has been revised thrice.

The PMA accused the vice-chancellor and admission committee of the DUHS of indulging in corrupt practices thereby playing with the future of brilliant students.

It demanded cancellation of entry test results and formation of high-powered inquiry committee for an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, The Dow University of Health Sciences on Monday allocated seats for MBBS first year in all categories through a transparent merit procedure adopted by the selection board.

The board comprised of Vice-Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed, Registrar Dr Mehar Hansotia, Dow Medical College Principal Prof Salahuddin Afsar, Sindh Medical College Principal Prof Tariq Sharafatullah, DMC Vice-Principal Dr Qazi Irshad Ahmed.

Nine SMC open merit applicants opted for UEDP DMC (self-finance) which led to nine vacancies for the next waiting list of open merit. Remaining 71 UEDP (DMC & SMC), 30 reciprocals, LUMHS (Jamshoro), 6 BDS LUMHS (Jamshoro) seats were also allocated on merit-cum-choice basis, as opted by the merit applicants.

The original documents of all finalised categories were also verified and discrepancies were also dealt by the selection board.

Last date for submission of fee is Nov 4. The session of first year MBBS will start from Nov 6.
