KARACHI, Oct 30: The Pakistan Peoples Party’s Sindh women wing on Monday expressed concern over the rising crime rate, lawlessness and inflation, and deplored the government’s inability to provide relief to the rain-affected people of Sindh.
A meeting of the PPP women wing was held at the Bilawal House to discuss the issues. MNA Ruqaiyya Soomro chaired the meeting which was attended by legislators and provincial and district office-bearers, including MNAs Naheed Khan, Shagufta Jumani, Nafisa Raja and Rubina Qaimkhani; MPAs Shazia Marri, Saira Shahliani, Shama Mithani, Nasreen Chandio, Humera Alwani and Shamim Ara Panhwar; Perveen Qaimkhani, Farzana Baloch, Shehla Raza, Shamim Wasih, Hina Dastagir and Mrs N. D. Khan.
The PPP women wing resolved to stage protests against all atrocities being faced by common man today and also to accelerate the struggle to bring their beloved party chairperson home.
The participants were of the view that no dictator could decide whether or not a public representative should have the right to either run for an office or serve as prime minister. “People have seen enough in these seven years and their sufferings cannot be hidden by the regime’s superficial statements.”
Naheed Khan pointed out that PPP women must continue to create awareness and ensure that women of this country got education in order to contribute more substantially to the nation building in all spheres of life.
Shazia Marri lauded the role of women in general and felicitated PPP women in particular for their outstanding performance and continued struggle.
She explained that though the military dictators had made it difficult for women to exploit their potential to the fullest, they had always faced resistance from women who had fought for their rights and against the dictatorial tide. She said this country needed women-friendly laws and complete implementation of the Constitution.
