KARACHI, Oct 30: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday directed the authorities to chalk out a strategy for community policing across the province and increase twice the number of police motorcycle force in Karachi, within next 15 days.
He issued these directives while chairing a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House. The meeting discussed different matters pertaining to curb crimes, especially street crimes.The governor, lauding the measures taken by the police with cooperation of community to ensure security and control traffic in Ramazan and on the eve of Eidul Fitr, stressed the need for carrying out those efforts on a regular basis.
He issued directives for promoting community policing and neighbourhood watch system throughout the province by taking measures at town level in Karachi in first phase and at district level in the second phase.
Dr Ibad also stressed for reviewing the setting up of town security police under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance and the directed concerned authorities to take steps in this regard.
Referring to community policing, he said that the services of volunteers be obtained for implementation of traffic rules, usage of pedestrians bridges and movement of people in queues.
Mr Ibad pledged that effective measures would be taken in future as government undertook in Ramazan and on the occasion of Eid.
He directed the authorities concerned to arrest the culprits involved in crimes and eradicate those who were backing these criminals so that positive results could be achieved.
“People’s cooperation be sought to control gambling, street crimes and drug dens,'' he said, adding that there should be pointation of such markets where transactions of stolen mobile phones and other valuables are being made and the same should be eliminated.
The governor said that tracking system was being installed in police mobiles across the province, hoping that the same would help their effective monitoring.
He directed the authorities to expedite the transfer process of police staff, deputed for more than three years, at every level of the police station.
He also directed the Sindh home advisor to complete process for recruiting police force.
Meanwhile, the Governor expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the demise of former AG Sindh Syed Sarfaraz Ahmed and father of senior journalist, Minhajur Rab.
He prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace.—PPI
