Gastroenteritis: six killed in Bela


BELA (Balochistan), Oct 29: At least six people, including three women, have died after suffering from gastroenteritis following the outbreak of the water-borne disease in three union councils of district Bela, while dozens of patients have been admitted to hospitals.

Reports reaching here suggested that water-borne epidemic has broken out in Union Council Northern Wellpat, Union Council Southern Jam Yousufabad and Union Council Khator Kudkarki.

Following the outbreak of the disease, dozens of patients who have been vomiting and having loose motions have been admitted to various hospitals and rural health centres.

On Saturday, three people, Noori Bibi, 60; Mohammad Jaman, 35, and Soomri, 25, have died after suffering from gastroenteritis. All three are reported to have been members of the same family and were residents of Naropea.

Another report said that three residents of Kudkarni of Khatore Union Council, Baloch Khan, 50; Taj Bibi, 17, and Ali, 15, had also fallen prey to the water-borne disease and had died after some time.

Dozens of patients suffering from gastroenteritis have been admitted to the Rural Heath Centre in Bela.

Meanwhile, the district health department had dispatched mobile teams to the affected Union Councils after the request of Union Council Nazim Northern Wellpat.

It is worth mentioning that during the last week alone more than 100 patients suffering from gastroenteritis were taken to the Rural Health Centre Bela.

An official at the hospital said that about 77 patients had been discharged after having been treated successfully.

Nazim Union Council Wellpat Northern, Sardar Aalam Khan told Online that the disease had assumed alarming proportions in the three Union Councils of the district. He said that there was an urgent need to take immediate steps to contain the epidemic and provide medical treatment to patients.

He stressed on the health department official concerned to take practical measures in this regard, adding that he would inform the district Nazim and chief minister about the situation. —Online
