Kasuri greets Mukherjee

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmud Kasuri has sent a message of felicitation to his new Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee.

The foreign minister’s message was delivered to the Indian External Affairs Minister’s Office by Pakistan’s deputy high commissioner in New Delhi on Saturday, it is learnt.

This marks the first formal contact between the top diplomats of the two countries.

Mr Mukherjee, formerly the defence minister, was re-appointed as External Affairs Minister on Tuesday.

In the message Mr Kasuri expressed the hope that under Mr Mukherjee’s “sagacious stewardship” the ongoing peace process would move forward, diplomatic sources told Dawn on Sunday.

Foreign Minister Kasuri also underscored the need for resolving all outstanding issues between the two countries including Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.— QA
