MULTAN, Oct 29: The Supreme Court has summoned Khanewal DPO on Monday (today) to explain his position regarding non-registeration of an FIR of a rape case by the district police.
The court summoned the DPO following an appeal made through a letter by a married woman who said that about two weeks back she came to Khanewal from Lahore by a bus to meet her parents who lived at 12 Meel, a locality of the district. She said when she alighted from the bus, one Rana Muhammad Idrees, a resident of the same locality, offered her a ride to her parents’ house. Later, Idrees raped her on gunpoint, she alleged.
The woman stated that after the incident, she went to Kehna police station for lodging an FIR where police officer Manzoor Ahmed refused to register her complaint and asked her to go to Kabirwala Saddar police station because the said area did not fall under Kehna police jurisdiction.
She said Kabirwala Saddar police SHO Ibrar Gujar also refused to lodge the FIR.
The woman wrote letters to various government high-ups and some Supreme Court judges to intervene in the matter and get her justice.
The apex court ordered DPO Shahid Haneef to register the case and summoned him along with relevant record.
However, Kehna police have registered the case following the apex court summons for the DPO and started investigation.
ARRESTED: A sub-inspector was arrested on allegations of extorting bribe in Khanewal district on Sunday.
SI Muhammad Hussain Bhatti of Katcha Khoh PS arrested Chhangy Shah and Puppu Shah, two alleged drug smugglers, with 2.5kg charas last month.
Later, both the accused submitted an application to the Anti-Corruption Establishment that the SI had extorted from them Rs 10,000. The ACE arrested the SI after an inquiry. — Correspondent
