MULTAN, Oct 29: A cleric, his two brothers and a friend allegedly raped a girl here on Sunday. A resident of Lohari Gate told police that she was alone in her house and her mother was away for shopping when Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, his two brothers and a friend entered her room after breaking the door lock and raped her one by one at gunpoint.

The girl was shifted to the Nishter Hospital in a trance-like state and when she regained senses she started crying and tried to escape.

The Lohari Gate police registered a case under section 10-07-79 and 452 and started investigation. The medical examination of the girl will be held on Monday (today).

It is learnt that Idrees was furious over breaking of his engagement with the girl and he had tried to kill her on Aug 19 last but she jumped from a triple-storey building and both her feet were broken.

Police had registered a case under section 452/354 on Aug 20 and arrested the suspect who was released the very next day.

Jamila Mai, a relative of the victim, said a case was registered against Idrees but the then investigation officer managed his bail when he was on judicial remand a day after his arrest and the culprit started threatening them.

Allah Ditta, investigation officer, told Dawn that the police were looking into different aspects and so far found contradictions in the statements of the girl and her mother. He said the medical examination would reveal the situation.
