KARACHI: Ban on seafood exports lifted

KARACHI, Oct 29: The ban on seafood exports to Europe from the K-1 auction hall of the Karachi Fish Harbour has been lifted with immediate effect, said a handout issued here on Sunday.

The ban had been imposed last week owing to the poor hygienic conditions prevailing in the hall.

Adviser to the CM on fisheries Fakir Jadam Mangrio has now observed that the standards required to be maintained in the process of stocking and packing seafood, including fish and shrimp, for exports to the European Union countries have been adopted. He said that efforts were under way to bring these standards at the K-1 hall at par with EU standards completely.

Commander (r) S. Q. Raza, Director General of the Marine Fisheries Department, and officials of the Fishermen Cooperative Society visited the auction hall and inspected the hygienic conditions.

They declared the ban lifted after expressing satisfaction over the improved sanitation and cleanliness at the auction hall.—APP
