Eswarah eyes hat-trick of wins at Karachi races today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Oct 28: Three-year-old chestnut filly Eswarah is on course for a hat-trick should she land the seven furlongs Northern Dancer Stakes Cup when the Gymkhana race meeting resumes after a break at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Reserved for three-year-old horses, the race has a small field of six contestants and five of them returned with flying colours in their last run. Captain Black is the only exception.

Saddled by S. Ehtisham, Eswarah should have to produce her best by overcoming challenger three-year-old bay colt The Conqueror’s.

A total of nine races including three cups have been drawn for the day’s meeting.

The first race begins at 12.00noon.

Two-year-old mare Pha Pha Kutni who makes her debut is fancied to claim Youngster Cup to be gone over a sprinting distance of five furlongs.

Despite her maiden run she enjoys an edge over seven other in fray barring last minute withdrawls on the basis of fine track work. The other two debutants are Shawanda and Princess Zatura.

She is likely to be chased by bay colt Inside Story and bay filly Samreen who have appeared on the board in their last outings.

With a win under her belt, three-year-old bay filly Safari Queen is poised to stretch her run by capturing the seven furlongs Eid Millan Cup.

Her likely opponents in the pack of eight runners are The King Of Arab and King Of Sanghar.

Chestnut Your Honour who has come up with shining performance in the recent past is fancied to repeat his winning feat by picking up the concluding event.

He conjured up a facile five lengths victory over Aie Bahar with Arshad astride on Oct 1. He should be followed by Velvet Green and Countess Mah Again.

If tried by connections, five-year-old bay mare Smiling Face should oblige punters by picking up spoils in the class VI race. Her opposition will come from The Concord and Trust Again.

Two horses – 10-year-old bay mare Sweet Grandy and six-year-old chestnut mare Queen Of Awan – are the pick of 18 runners and promises to justify their billing in class VII div III race. The former is our fancy to finish ahead of opponents.

Fancied three-year-old chestnut filly Maid’s Causeway should edge out opponents in the third race to register hat-trick. She should be followed by Swift Arrival and Mera Jugnoo for places.

If tried, Daruwala should stand out as the best in the opener while bay colt Jack In The Box should make amends to grab the second race.
