Cricket betting racket busted

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: With willow season in full swing in India, thanks to ICC Champions Trophy, Delhi Police have busted an illegal betting racket, the second in two days, with arrest of three people.

Police raided a house in Rohini area in northwest Delhi on Friday night on a tip-off and apprehended the three people while they were allegedly engaged in betting on the Champions Trophy match between South Africa and Pakistan. The amount involved was Rs.2 million ($44,000).

“One automatic voice recorder, one colour TV with remote, four mobile phones and two notebooks were recovered from them, which were being used in betting,” police said in a statement on Saturday.

A case was filed under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of Gambling Act at Prashant Vihar police station. The accused were identified as Subhash Chander, Raj Kumar and Kamal Kumar.—Agencies
