NAIROBI, Oct 28: Kenyan soccer chiefs on Saturday cancelled a special meeting to discuss its suspension from FIFA saying they were awaiting guidance from the sport's ruling body on how to restructure the country's Premier League.
FIFA indefinitely suspended Kenya from international competition on Tuesday for failing to respect signed agreements and for recurrent problems in their football federation.
World soccer's ruling body said the suspension would remain in place until further agreements were fully implemented and Kenyan soccer officials on Friday asked FIFA to help them revamp the country's domestic league.
“We shall call the governors' meeting once we have received communication from FIFA,” Kenya Football Federation (KFF) secretary general Dan Omino said.
Kenyan Sports Minister Maina Kamanda said earlier this week he would give the KFF until Saturday to make their position known on the FIFA ban or he would take appropriate action.
Kenya's most popular sport is in chaos with two rival organisations running parallel Premier Leagues.
FIFA wants Kenya Premier League Limited (KPL) to run a league featuring 18 clubs but KFF has set up a company, KFF PL, to run a 20-team league.
“KFF has suspended the (KFF PL) league for one week to allow clubs to reorganise themselves,” Omino said.
