KARACHI: Five killed in separate incidents

KARACHI, Oct 28: Five people were killed in separate incidents in different parts of the city. A muezzin was killed in his house adjacent to a mosque in a Korangi locality on Saturday.

Police said that Abid Hussain, 40, muezzin in Hanfia mosque in C Area of Qayyumabad was attacked in his house by unknown persons with knives and blunt weapons. The killers escaped after stabbing him to death. The body was later shifted to a hospital for autopsy.

A man killed his wife over some domestic dispute in Chakiwara.

Police said that Moti Lal had frequent quarrels with his wife Jamna Bai, 30, over petty issues. On Saturday, he attacked his wife with a knife. Jamna died on the spot and Moti Lal fled.

In Korangi, a man was killed and his father was wounded when they offered resistance to bandits late Friday night.

Police said that bandits intercepted Abid, 24, and his father, Abdul Rasheed in Gulshan-i-Millat. Both father and son resisted when the bandits demanded cellphones at gunpoint. On their resistance, Abid was killed and Abdul Rasheed was wounded. The bandits snatched mobile phones and escaped.

In Bahadurabad, a teenaged boy was shot dead at a restaurant. Police sources said that Safwan, 16, went along with his friends to have dinner at a restaurant where they confronted each other over some petty issue. Safwan was shot by one of his friends and he was taken to a private hospital, where he died.

In Surjani Town, an unidentified body was found at an isolated place. The body with a bullet wound was sent to hospital for examination. Following the autopsy, the body was shifted to Edhi morgue for identification purposes.

SNATCHINGS: Around 50 people were deprived of their cars, motorcycles or cellphones in various localities of the city on Saturday.

Police sources said that eight vehicles and 42 mobile phones were either snatched or stolen. Three motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint and an equal number were stolen. Two cars were stolen while no car was snatched at gunpoint on Saturday.

Twenty-two people reported that they were held at gunpoint and robbed of their cellphones, cash and belongings. Twenty others reported that their mobile phones were stolen.Khokhrapar police claimed recovery of 20 stolen phones and four TT pistols following the arrest of four suspects Zeeshan, Arbab, Akbar, and Hadi alias Sher Khan.

Police said that the suspects were signalled to stop in Khokhrapar when they opened fire at the police. After a brief encounter, all the suspects were arrested and mobile phones and four TT pistols were recovered from their possession, the police said.
