16 killed in Rohri accident

SUKKUR, Oct 27: At least 16 people, including eight women and four children, perished and 50 others received injuries, as a result of an accident near Rohri bypass at the National Highway, on Thursday afternoon.

The ill-fated bus, carrying devotees from Shaker Ganj, in Arore near Rohri, was returning to the Site area, Sukkur.

The speedy bus, in an attempt to overtake another bus near the Rohri bypass, went out of control of the driver and fell into a ditch and immediately caught fire.

As a result of the accident, eleven people, including women and children, died on the spot, while over 50 others got injuries and shifted to Sukkur Civil Hospital.

Those killed included, Shahzadi 40, Shabiran,30, wife of Mohammad Sachal, Aalia,10, daughter of Mohammad Sachal, Punhal, 25, son of Mohammad Sachal, Ameer Zadi, 40, wife of Mohammad Mughal, Mst. Shahzadi,40, wife of Mohammad Bux, Jamul,50, wife of Allah Wasayo, Bano, 10, daughter of Ali Bux, Rafia, 25, daughter of Rahib Ali, Sajjid Ali,5, son of Mohammad Pervaiz, Chunni wife of Dilshad and a six month old child.

The four seriously injured included, Moran, Saima daughter of Ali Ahmed, Jadal and Babli, 12, succumbed to injuries in Civil Hospital, Sukkur.

Another seriously injured girl, whose name could not ascertained, breathed her last at a Larkana hospital, on Friday morning.

The injured admitted to Civil Hospital, Sukkur included, Zubair, Tahir, Shahzad, Sharif, Ajmal, Najma, Shazia, Rashida, Razoo, Aalia, Mir Hassan, Sajjid, Ramzan, Manthar, Shahzado, Zahid, Abdul Ghaffar, Abdul Ghani and others.

Emergency was declared in Taluka Hospital Rohri and Civil Hospital Sukkur, and all doctors and paramedical staff were immediately called in while scores of people rushed to the hospitals to donate blood.

In the mean time, PPP MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, President PPP Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, MPA Dr Nasrullah Baloch, the District Nazim of Sukkur, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Taluka Nazim of Sukkur, Naeem Siddiqui and others rushed to the scene of the accident and later visited the hospital and also supervised the relief work.

Bodies were shifted to their native village Lal Mashaikh near Sukkur, where they were laid to rest on Friday afternoon.

On this occasion, the District Nazim of Sukkur announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 each for the families of dead and free treatment for the injured.
