VEHARI, Oct 27: Doctors who treated toxic liquor victims during the last two days at private health facilities charged at will as relatives were also ready to do whatever they could to hide patients’ names from police and media.

Reports said that two people died while about a dozen were hospitalised after taking toxic liquor in various parts of the district during Eid holidays.

Reports of liquor effects came from Thingi Colony, Mailsi, Jalla Jeem and Kehror Pakka. A majority of the affected people were admitted to private clinics where relatives paid heavily to the doctors.

A private doctor of Thingi Colony, on the condition of anonymity, said that he charged Rs10,000 each from relatives of six liquor victims.

Vehari police meanwhile said it had conducted several raids in various parts of the district and recovered over 1,000 bottles of toxic liquor and arrested six traders —Irfan of Kehror Pakka, Abid, Akber and Ramzan of Thingi, Kausar and Ashiq of Luddan.

Reports identified two of the victims who died latter as Abdul Ghaffar of D-block, Vehari, and Yaseen of Chak 13/WB.

LETTERS: Povincial minister Ghulam Muhayudin Chishti distributed appointment letters among newly-recruited 440 educaters under the Education Sector Reforms Programme (ESRP) here on Friday.

District nazim Syed Shahid Mehdi, tehsil nazim Mian Saqib Khursheed and EDO education Ms Naseem Mansoor were also present on this occasion at a ceremony held at the district council hall.
