HYDERABAD: Musharraf failed to implement his 7-point agenda: Ghafoor
Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, Oct 27: Jamaat-i-Islami Naib Amir Prof Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed has said that Gen Pervez Musharraf has proved himself to be the worst ruler in the country’s history.
Speaking at an Eid Milan party on Thursday, he said that Gen Musharraf’s foreign policy had failed completely and he had been hopelessly unsuccessful in enforcing even one point of his seven-point agenda he had so forcefully presented to the nation immediately after staging the coup.
He said that Gen Musharraf had been reiterating in the past that he had saved Kashmir by extending full cooperation to the US in its so-called war on terror but in reality the Kashmiris had been left to their own fate and the country was facing more internal and external crises than it was faced with before 9/11.
He said that 700,000 Indian forces were still present in the occupied Kashmir and were committing atrocities against the innocent people with total impunity. They had not stopped killing them even during the holy month of Ramazan, he said.
The JI leader said that the people of tribal areas, who had laid down great sacrifices in the cause of Kashmir, were being crushed and their loyalty was being questioned. The government had deployed 80,000 army personnel to their area and its policies had emboldened even a pigmy like Hamid Karzai to issue threats.
Prof Ghafoor said that US President George Bush was openly supporting Mr Karzai and India and criticised Gen Musharraf for subjecting the nation’s hero, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, to persecution and trying to portray him as a criminal.
Gen Musharraf had reduced the parliament to a mere rubber stamp by imposing his arbitrary and unilateral decisions on the nation, he remarked.
He appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of protests of people whose young relatives had disappeared.
Prof Ghafoor said that the people of Sindh, which generated 70 per cent of the country’s total revenue, were in the grip of abject poverty and its jobless youth were forced to commit self-immolation.
He particularly referred to a recent incident in which a young jobless Sindhi set himself on fire in front of the building of the Supreme Court in Islamabad.
He said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which was part of the government in Islamabad and Sindh and ruled Karachi and Hyderabad, had completely failed in curbing street crimes in the province. There was a time when MQM chief Altaf Hussain used to lament that the Mohajirs had been made second class citizens but today when his own ministers were rolling in luxuries, his people (Mohajirs) were forced to live in the worst conditions, he added.
Peoples’ lives, properties and honour had been made the most vulnerable in the province, he said, adding that even this day he had seen rainwater stagnating at many places in Hyderabad.
