KARACHI: Car-theft hushed up

KARACHI, Oct 27: A car snatched at gunpoint in Gulberg Town and recovered later in an area bordering Punjab, has not been shown as recovered so far. Those who were occupying the car were allegedly let off by the police.Well-placed sources in the police said that a stolen car had been recovered in the limits of Kot Sabzal police, Sadiqabad, along the Sindh-Punjab border, a couple of day before Eidul Fitr. The man occupying the car was identified as Rehman who, along with the vehicles, was taken to the headquarters of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell.

Sources said that the matter was brought to the high-ups in the ACLC who allegedly struck a deal with the Rehman in a sum of Rs300,000. After receipt of the amount, the man was let off. The recovered car (ALB-189), which had been snatched at gunpoint in Gulberg police limits on July 27, 2006, was not shown as recovered. The FIR (218/06 dated August 3) about the snatching of the car was registered at the Gulberg police station.
