Asif to attend ICC award ceremony

Published October 25, 2006

LAHORE, Oct 24: Pakistan’s talented fast bowler Asif, currently facing suspension over doping charges for use of anabolic steroid nandrolone, has expressed delight over his nomination for the ICC award of emerging players.

Talking to journalists, Asif said that he would go to India on Nov 2 to attend the ICC ceremony in which the top emerging player would be announced. The ceremony will be held in Mumbai on Nov 3.

Asif said it was not only an honour for him but also for his country and he vowed to continue performing to the best of his ability to earn more laurels for his team and country.

Asif, however, avoided responding to questions on the chances of his exoneration from the dope testing charge. "I can't comment on it since the PCB has strictly forbidden me to talk to the press on the issue," he said.
