KARACHI, Oct 24: Baloch nationalist parties are facing a tough time because of mounting pressures from militants and hardliners to resign from legislative assemblies in protest against “aggressive policies” of the rulers against the people of Balochistan.

The demand for resignations from legislative assemblies was raised after the murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Balochistan National Party, headed by Sardar Akhtar Mengal, was only the party that took the initiative as the party’s lone member in the provincial and national assemblies resigned in protest against the policies of Islamabad rulers.

However, Jamhoori Watan Party and the National Party leaders linked the resignations of their members with the collective decision of the ARD component parties’ members. The resignation issue did not figure in the ARD’s London meeting.

These two nationalist parties are in a great dilemma as militant element, including Baloch Students Organization, have been mounting pressures on the nationalist parties to resign from provincial and national assemblies as there was no justification of staying in assemblies after the death of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Moreover, they argued that the Islamabad rulers had not changed their policy regarding Balochistan and there was a state of confrontation in the province.

It is learnt that the scions of assassinated Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti have urged the JWP leaders to call a meeting of the party and take a final decision on the issue and make it clear whether they are loyal with the party chief or with the government.

The National Party leaders who have always insisted on adopting political means to achieve political objectives will also meet after Eid-ul-Fitr to chalk out its strategy.
