KARACHI: Ibad sees decline in crime rate


KARACHI, Oct 24: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said a remarkable decline has been registered in street crimes in the province as a result of measures taken in the light of special directives recently issued by the prime minister.

Talking to the media during his visit to various city areas on Monday night, he expressed hope that the government would soon overcome this problem.

“Every possible step is being taken to maintain law and order in the province,” the governor said sounding a note of warning that action would also be taken even if any police functionary was found involved in crimes.

“No body is above the law,” he remarked.

He said that security was beefed up, intelligence network was alerted and patrolling was increased under instructions from the prime minister in order to arrest the spiralling graph of street crimes in Karachi.

The measures and steps taken by the Sindh government resulted in decline in incidents of street crimes, he said adding that law and order still remains top priority with the provincial government despite improved atmosphere.

When told that the panic has gripped the citizens after spread of dengue fever, the governor said, “The provincial and city governments have taken every possible step in this respect. However, citizens should avoid self- medication and contact doctors for treatment,” he added.

The governor said that he had also directed the authorities concerned to take effective measures, including fumigation, to control this disease in the province.

The governor himself drove the car and visited Sharea Faisal, Gulstan-i-Jauhar, Abul Hassan Ispahani Road, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, F.B Area, Sohrab Goth, Nagin Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Hyderi Market, Nazimabad Underpass, Hassan Square, Tariq Road, Sharah-i-Quaideen, Saddar and Clifton.

He also met public at Hyderi Market and inquired about their problems.

He expressed satisfaction over the free traffic flow despite Eid rush and said that it spoke of effective traffic management. He lauded the efforts of city nazim and said that the city government had re-vitalized the city which was vibrating after midnight too.

During his visit, the governor was accompanied by Provincial Culture and Tourism Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, CCPO Niaz Siddiqui, DIG Traffic Falak Khurshed, DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah and other officials.—PPI/APP
