Lashings club to play Jamaica

KINGSTON, Oct 21: The Lashings all-star side will play Jamaica's senior team in a limited-overs match to help publicise next year's cricket World Cup, an official said on Friday.

The Dec 2 match will be a 40-overs match played at the new stadium in Trelawny parish, said Paul Campbell, vice-president of the Jamaica Cricket Association.

''It's part of the strategy to grow the game. The World Cup is just five weeks and it's important that when it's over we sustain the momentum,'' Campbell said.

The England-based Lashings World XI includes former Test players such as fastbowler Curtly Ambrose of the West Indies, Aravinda de Silva of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwean Grant Flower. They will also play a 20/20 match against an all-schools team.

The all-purpose stadium in Trelawny will host the World Cup's opening ceremony on March 11 and several warm-up games.—AP
