SAHIWAL, Oct 21: The woman who was set ablaze by in-laws succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Saturday while the police arrested her husband Shahzad Ahmed along with his father, sister and brother.

Reports said Shamim Akhtar and her father-in-law Muhammad Husain exchanged hot words over a family dispute on Oct 3. Later, her sister-in-law Donia, Shahzad and Muhammad Husain beat up Shamim and sprinkled kerosene oil on her. The neighbours shifted the woman to hospital where she succumbed to her burn injuries on Saturday.

Harappa police have arrested M Husain, Shahzad Ahmed, Donia, Shahzad’s brother Asif and registered a case under Section 302 of the PPC.

The Punjab IG has sought a report on the case.

KILLED: Political rivalry claimed the life of a farmer at Chak 152/9-L here on Friday.

Reports said Mushtaq Ahmed and Muhammad Iqbal had a political enmity since the last local bodies elections. Iqbal had lost the polls. About two days back, Mushtaq Ahmed at an Iftar party allegedly insulted Muhammad Iqbal on which the latter along with his son Talia Iqbal shot dead the former.
