KARACHI: Girls clinch top three positions: HSC (Humanities) results

KARACHI, Oct 21: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, on Saturday declared the results of HSC part-II (Class XII) Humanities (private) annual examination, 2006, with a pass percentage of 47.42, which is about 2 per cent less than that of the last year.
The top three positions in the merit list were clinched by girl students, who were also presented bouquets on behalf of the BIE at a ceremony. The controller of examination, Prof Syed Abdul Aziz, gave the details of the results and appreciated the position holders for their performance.
The three position holders who appeared in ‘hijab’ at the ceremony said that they had also been taking religious education, in addition to modern day education, as they believed that the former would help them to run the family system in a much better way.
According to BIE result gazette, Omama Abdur Rehman, roll no 545947, bagged the first position by securing 815 marks out of 1,100, while second position went to Samina Naz, roll no 545443. Qamrunnisa, roll no 543032, got the third position.
As many as 12,667 candidates, including 7,181 women, appeared in the examination, out of which 5,967, including 3,766, were declared successful. The pass percentage of the woman candidates came as 52.47, while in the case of male candidates it remained 40.72.
Results of 74 candidates were withheld for their reported indulgence in the use of unfair means during examinations.
The grade-wise breakdown of successful candidates is as follows:
A-1 grade: Nil, A grade: 2 males and 8 females, B grade: 62 males and 234 women, C grade: 545 males and 1,173 women, D grade: 1,235 males and 1,974 women and E grade: 341 males and 361 women.
During interviews after the announcement of results, Omama, a resident of KAECHS, who got first position, said that she had done her matriculation from a school, but later decided to continue education as a private student as it was not possible for her to adjust herself in the outside home environment of openness.
She maintained that education in arts or humanities was equally good as that of sciences, but there was a need to give students good combination of subjects and make the question papers more MCQs oriented. She said that there was no harm in taking education at Madressahs as it provided a sound basis for religious education and Islamic system of living and culture.
Samina Naz, resident of Manzoor Colony, the second position holder said that she had completed the Darse Nizami course as well and as such she was in a good position to study humanities courses as a private candidate. She said that the youth of the country must possess good background knowledge about Islam and Pakistan as well in order to know their values and social obligations and portray their religion in a true sense before the world.
Qamrunninsa, a resident of Lee Market area, the third position holder, said that she decided to take education in humanities group as she had the opportunity of selecting subjects of her choice there. She wants to do her masters in English or Mass Communication.
