SAHIWAL, Oct 19: The district police on Thursday arrested the Fatehsher police head constable after dismissing him from service on the charge of running a gang of robbers.

The district police officer has also ordered demotion of the SHO for connivance in the crime. The SHO had earlier been reverted to the rank of sub-inspector by the Multan range DIG.

According to reports, Irfan, a resident of Mission Chowk exchanged his car (LWZ-6518) with the car of head constable Rana Zulfiqar whom he also paid Rs300,000. However, the car was found to be a stolen one as the documents given by the head constable proved fake.

Irfan informed the police after which an anti-dacoity cell arrested a member of a gang, led by head constable Rana Zulfiqar Ahmad on Sept 20 and recovered five cars. Rana Zulfiqar got pre-arrest bail from the court of an additional district and sessions judge which was cancelled on Thursday.

The police arrested the head constable and recovered seven more cars worth Rs10 million.

Besides penalising the head constable and the SHO, the DPO has also ordered demotion of sub-inspector Muhammad Younis to the rank of ASI.

ILLEGAL DETENTION: A bailiff of the Lahore High Court’s Multan bench has recovered a motor mechanic from the illegal custody of the police anti-dacoity staff. The court has summoned the anti-dacoity cell in-charge, Rao Shafqat, for Oct 26.

Earlier, mechanic Salamat Ali had managed to get a pre-arrest bail from the court of an additional district and sessions judge in a car theft case. The police, however, arrested him and put him behind the bars from where the bailiff recovered him.

PROTEST: Residents of Chak 135/9-L on Thursday protested against non-provision of a new transformer after the previous one was burnt a few days ago.

They raised slogans against the officials who, they said, had refused to entertain them. Meanwhile, they said, a Mepco line superintendent had collected Rs500 from each house as repair charges of the burnt transformer.

ATM FACILITY: The ATM facility will be launched in the National Bank of Pakistan branches in Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Pakpattan on Nov 1 when the bank will be switched to online system.

This was stated by NBP regional business chief Rao Abdul Rauf at an Iftar-dinner.

On the fraud of Rs3.734 million in the Chak 116/9-L branch, he said the detailed audit of the bank was in process. The case would be handed over to the FIA after collecting exact figures.

He said the bank manager allegedly prepared 14 agricultural pass books with forged signatures of patwaris and tehsildars and drew the amount. The bank had already recovered the amount.
