ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) chairman Altaf M. Saleem on Thursday said Rs60 billion had been distributed among quake victims in AJK and NWFP.

Speaking in a PTV programme, he said recipients were owners of damaged houses, heirs of the dead and wounded in the quake.

He said 95 per cent of the affected people had been provided CGI sheet shelters which could protect them against winter. He expressed the hope that construction of houses would be completed next year.

He advised survivors to build their houses according to Erra guidelines. In reply to a question, he said that under the livelihood programme selected affected families would be paid Rs3,000 per month each.

Mr Saleem said Erra was finalising various programmes for early rehabilitation of people, including livestock replacement support, feed supply, provision of farm tools, etc.

He pointed out that the first instalment of Rs25,000 had already been paid, adding that most of people had also rece-ived second instalment of Rs75,000.— APP
