KARACHI: Class XII (Commerce) results announced

KARACHI: Oct 19: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, on Thursday declared the results of HSC part-II (Class XII) Commerce (regular and private) annual examination, 2006. A total of 16,841 candidates were declared successful.

The woman candidates dominated, as they managed to secure two of the three top positions in each of the two categories, ie regular and private. The overall pass percentage in the case of regular candidates came as 63.59, while in the case of private candidates it remained 42.43.Giving interviews to newsmen during the result announcement ceremony at the BIE all the position holders expressed the view that government’s decision to introduce a composite examination after two year of education both for SSC and HSC certificates was not in the interest of education or in line with the spirit of any conceptual inculcation of knowledge, but meant to overburden the students who were already obsessed with rote learning.

According to BIE statistics, as many as 21,053 candidates, including 7,965 women, appeared as regular candidates, out of which 13,388, including 6,000 women, were declared successful. A total of 22 males and 19 females were awarded A-1 grades.

In the private group, a total of 8,400 candidates, including 1,655 women, took the examination, out of which 3,453 including 798 women, were declared successful. None of the candidates obtained A-1 grade, but five males and nine females were awarded A grades.

Fahima Farooq, roll no 250832, and Mohammad Usaid, roll no 240212, bagged first and second position in the regular candidates’ merit list by securing 920 and 915 marks respectively. The two position holders belonged to the Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Science.

The third position among the regular candidates was won by Zarish Safdar, roll no 250342, of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, who secured 914 out of 1100 marks.

Among the private candidates, Rabia Khatoon, roll no 289179, a resident of Nazimabad No-2, clinched the first position by securing 839 marks out of 1100. Rukhsana Hanif, roll no 289030, of New Karachi, and Mohammad Asghar, roll no 285662, of Orangi Town, got second and third positions respectively in the private group.

Results of 99 candidates belonging to the two categories were withheld for use of unfair means in the examinations. The results will be announced as soon as the relevant decisions are considered and approved by the Board of Governors, said a BIE notification.

The breakdown of successful candidates is as follows:

REGULAR: A-1 grade; 22 males and 19 females, A grade; 292 males and 635 females, B grade; 1,074 males and 1,510 females, C grade; 2,496 males and 2,106 females , D grade; 3,076 males and 1,606 females and E grade; 428 males and 124 females.

PRIVATE: A-1 grade; Nil, A grade; 5 males and 9 females , B grade; 116 males and 84 females, C grade; 732 males and 271 females , D grade; 1,580 males and 371 females and E grade 221 males and 63 females.
