KARACHI: One killed, three injured by bandits

KARACHI, Oct 19: A passenger was killed and three others were injured during an armed holdup in an inter-city bus at Super Highway on Thursday evening. The identities of the dead and injured could not be ascertained immediately.

Edhi sources said that the incident occurred near Edhi Village at Super Highway. Police said that according to the initial reports, the bandits were traveling as passengers.

During the robbery, they opened fire at passengers when they tried to put up resistance. Following the incident the bandits managed to flee taking advantage of darkness.

Edhi sources said that the injured were rushed to the Baqai Hospital at Super Highway.

SUICIDE: A housewife committed suicide in North Nazimabad on Thursday, police said.

Police said that Afroz doused herself in kerosene oil before setting herself on fire in her house in Hyderi police limits.

Her husband Rashid, a banker, also suffered burns while trying to put out the fire.

Following the incident the woman was shifted to the Burns Centre of the Civil Hospital where she succumbed to her burns.

Police said that the couple was married 13 years back and was still childless. Quoting the family sources, police said that the couple was often engaged in altercation.

ARRESTED: Police on Thursday arrested three suspects and recovered 34 mobile phones from their possession.

The town investigation officer, DSP Gul Hameed Samoo, said that three suspects identified as Nadeem, Faizan and Sarwar were arrested from the Eidgah area.

During interrogation the suspects confessed committing several holdups in city.

Apart from the recovery of 34 cellphones police recovered a Mouser pistol and a revolver from their possession.

Meanwhile, Korangi police arrested a bandit following a shoot out on Thursday.

Police said that Sohail was deprived of his motorcycle and Rs12,000 by two armed bandits in sector 32-C.

Later, police intercepted the two suspects and after a shootout one suspect Imran was arrested while his accomplice fled. Police recovered the snatched motorcycle, cash and pistol from his possession.

In another incident, Korangi police arrested a gang of robbers.

Police arrested three suspects Noman, Adnan, Saeed and Rehman and recovering cash, some jewelry and four TT pistols from their possession.
