KARACHI: Steps against VHF in various towns


KARACHI, Oct 19: Owing to the increasing cases of viral haemorrhagic fever in the city, fumigation was carried out in various towns on Thursday, said a city government press release.

The town administration of Liaquatabad launched a fumigation drive to control spread of dengue in the town. Fumigation was carried out in several areas including Jahangirabad, 100-Quarters, 400-Quarters, Wahidabad, Kashmiri Muhalla, Lal Haveli, Orangabad, Jalalabad, Siraj Colony and Musarrat Colony, especially the surrounding areas of nullahs and katchi abadis.

Town Nazim Osama Qadri advised the people to ensure cleanliness at their homes. He also directed the town administration to ensure cleanliness at mosques and Imambargahs on the occasion of Jummatul Widah and Eid.

JAMSHED TOWN: The town administration will start a fumigation drive in each union council of the town on Friday.

The town nazim instructed the officials to ensure spray, especially over open garbage dumps, nullahs, and accumulated stagnant water. He urged citizens to take preventive measures on self-help basis regarding cleanliness and sanitary conditions. Six spraying vehicles would take part in fumigation drive in the town.

Meanwhile, Town Nazim Mohammad Arif Ajakiya said that the town administration had prepared a Rs131 million PC-1 with the help of the city government to develop Tariq Road

Speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted in the honour of journalists on Wednesday, he urged the shopkeepers at Tariq Road to pay their taxes to help the government in carrying out more uplift programmes.

He deplored that roads had been dug up for water and sewerage connections without the permission of the town. The town nazim warned strict action against those involved in this practice.

GULSHAN TOWN: A meeting of the town council was held here with Town Naib Nazim Shoaib Akhtar in the chair, which suggested carrying out an awareness drive against dengue in the town.

Mr Akhtar said that after considering suggestions, a strategy would be chalked out to control the spread of dengue in the town.

SHAH FAISAL TOWN: The work on the laying of 1,900 running feet sewerage lines of 8, 15 and 18 inches has started in UC -7 of the town to solve the sewerage problems of the area.

This was stated by Town Nazim Mohammed Imran during a visit to various areas.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that 2,930 feet sewerage lines were being laid at a cost of Rs4 million, which would benefit Rafah-i-Aam Society, Shamsi Society and Punjab Town.—PPI/APP
