KARACHI, Oct 19: Shipping activity remained brisk at the port where six ships carrying containers, edible oil, sugar, chemicals and coal were allotted berths at various terminals during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Thursday.

Nine ships -- Thurngia Express, ACX Plumeria, Poineer Spirit, MM Galveston, Advantage, Moon Vazs, DD Master, Anette Kosan, Wai Mea -- are currently occupying berth.

A cargo volume of 61,258 tons comprising 43,727 tons imports and 17,531 tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,506 (TEUs) was handled during the report period.

Three ships, Advantage, ACX Plumeria and Anette Kosan, sailed, while MM Galvestona and Thurngia Express are expected to sail on Thursday.

Six ships, Sima Paya, Xiang Wan, IBN Sina, Tassels, Yanaseni and Samho Cygnus, are expected to take berth on Thursday.

Eight ships -- MSC Germany, MSC Austria, Pacer, Pancaldo, Warbah, Nogogini, Liquid Success and Islamabad -– are due to arrive on Friday.
