SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 18: The district police officer has transferred Sharaqpur SHO Dr Shafique and suspended SI Umer Hayat for dereliction of duties following people’s protest against the increasing robberies.

Mr Shafique has been asked to report to police lines.

Reports said scores of villagers on Tuesday had blocked traffic on Lahore-Sharaqpur Road near Mandiawala for three hours in protest against the police and the rising incidence of robberies. Dacoits and thieves had struck seven times on Sunday in the area and injured some people on offering resistance.

Villagers took out a protest procession and chanted slogans against the Sharaqpur police for allegedly releasing some dacoits after receiving bribe from them. They claimed that the police had released the outlaws and did not recover the looted valuables from them.

On receiving information, the DPO reached the spot and assured victims Maqbool, Yaqoob, Sadam Husain, Mubasher, Khalil Ahmad, Asgher Ali and others of early arrest of the outlaws, saying that security would be provided to commuters and residents of the areas. The protesters dispersed after the DPO’s assurance.

LOOTED: Robbers took away cash, a motorcycle and valuables here on Wednesday in two strikes.

Three dacoits barged into an oil factory in Rachana Town and made off with a cash of Rs82,000, a cell phone and other valuables at gunpoint from its owner Amjad Farooq.

In another incident, three outlaws took away a motorcycle, cash and other valuables from Mustafa at Fattuwala in Sharaqpur police limits when he was on his way home.

Police are investigating.

Killed: Kidnappers killed their accomplice on the dispute of ransom money and injured another near Eserkay village, some 25 kilometres from here, on Wednesday.

According to Saddar police, five people kidnapped industrialist Safdar Shaheen of Sialkot six days ago. They demanded Rs1 million from the family of the victim. They received Rs900,000 ransom near Jalalpur Bhattian in Hafizabad and set the trader free.

Police said they sat at the bank of the canal near Eserkay and developed differences on the distribution of money. They killed Shamshad and injured Nasib.

A police team reached the site and took the body into custody and admitted the injured to hospital.

When contacted, City ASP Pir Muhammad Shah said the injured man identified his accomplices as Asif, Inayat and Shamsher.

He said police had recovered Rs100,000.
