KARACHI, Oct 18: A policeman was shot dead in Al Falah Society on Wednesday evening, hours after the Sindh police chief claimed arrest of two alleged killers of police and Rangers officials.

Provincial police chief Jehnagir Mirza told a news conference at driving licence branch in Clifton: “Fifteen officials of police and rangers were killed between June 23 and Oct 13 in Jamshed, Liaquatabad, Malir, Bin Qasim, and Shah Faisal towns, which spread a wave of terror among officials of police and Rangers.”

A team was constituted and the task was assigned to the Crime Investigation Department under the supervision of Deputy Inspector-General Mir Zubair Mehmood.

Two suspects -- Kamran alias Kamoo and Mohammad Farhan alias Shali alias Gole -- were arrested following a brief encounter near Cattle Colony in Landhi, he said.

Police claimed seizing 30 cellphones, two pistols and 100 bullets from the suspects.

The Sindh police chief claimed that the suspects targeted officials at random. He did not cite the reasons for which the alleged killers targeted law enforcers.

A few hours later, Head Constable Hasaan, 28, was brutally killed as unknown killers pumped 12 bullets into his body. In the earlier killings, the killers shot a single bullet into the head of their target.

Investigation DIG Manzoor Mughal said: “We have found six empties –- two of sub-machine gun and four of 9mm pistol –- and the victim appears to e been shot from point-blank range.”

Shah Faisal Town Police Officer Arif Hanif said the victim was returning home after offering prayers when unknown people opened fire on him.

The incident occurred in the limits of Al Falah PS, where Hasaan was posted in the investigation wing.

SP Hanif denied that the incident was linked with the previous target killings, especially in Malir area. “The victim was in civvies and not using police motorcycle or wearing police shoes which could establish his identity,” he remarked, adding that a sub-machine gun was also used in the killing.

Sources said the victim had suffered 12 bullet wounds. “The post-mortem examination showed that nine bullets pierced through the chest and abdomen.
