PESHAWAR, Oct 18: The government of Japan is keen to invest in the social sector, especially education and health, in remote and backward areas of Pakistan, Japanese ambassador to the country Seiji Kojima has said.

During a meeting with Political Affairs Minister Amir Muqam, he said the Japanese government would take measures to bring about improvement in education, health and social welfare sectors in backwards areas, particularly in the Frontier province.

The minister said the assistance extended by Japan after last year’s earthquake was quite substandard and the people of Pakistan were thankful to the government of Japan for its outstanding help.

He said the Pakistani society was witnessing a great change in its outlook due to the policy of enlightened moderation of President Pervez Musharraf.

He said that development of social sectors in Pakistan had been made possible because of continuous help and financial assistance of Japan.—APP
