KARACHI, Oct 17: Shipping activity remained active at the port where three ships carrying containers and LPG took berths at QICT and EVT during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Tuesday.

Departures were also fairly brisk where three container ships and one oil tanker sailed during the last 24 hours.

A total of nine ships -- KOU Chang, Sealand Independence, CSAV Ningbo, Poineer Spirit, Pacific Jade, Advantage, DD Master, Arctic Gas and Capt George-L -- are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, rice, edible oil, wheat, LPG, sugar and iron ore.

A cargo volume of 71,595 tons comprising 59,289 tons imports and 12,306 tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,264 (TEUs) was handled during the report period.

Four ships, Sinar Bontang, KOU Chang, ACX Lavender and Al-Maqwa, sailed out, while Sealand Independence, Arctic Gas and Pacific Jade are expected to sail on Tuesday.

Three ships, Mega-II, Galveston and Briggen, are expected to take berths on Tuesday.

Serief, with magnesium ore, is due to arrive on Tuesday, while IBN Sina, Thurngia Express, Anette Kosan and Tassels, with containers, chemicals and furnace oil, are due to arrive on Wednesday.
