Inzamam unhappy

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 16: Pakistan’s regular captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, serving a four-ODI from ICC for bringing the game into disrepute at The Oval, on Monday expressed huge disappointment over the positive doping results of pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

"Of course, the situation is not good for Pakistan and it will definitely have an impact on the team's performance in the ICC Champions Trophy," Inzamam remarked.

The Multan-born player said it would put tremendous pressure on the remaining players who would have to make extra efforts for overcoming the opposition.

He added that since doping tests were not so common in cricket, the players needed to act more carefully to avoid any harsh punishment.

Inzamam stressed that the PCB took the right decision by calling back the two cricketers from India because “if the ICC had caught them for the offence, the punishment would have been more severe.”

Meanwhile, Shoaib and Asif did not face the press when they arrived at Lahore airport from India, after the PCB pulled them out from the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy, for having tested positive in a doping test.

A good number of media persons were present at the Lahore airport to ask Shoaib and Asif to comment on the situation, but they instead of coming out through the arrival lounge, slipped through the departure area.

They will face a tribunal to be set up by the PCB to clear their position from the allegation. The tribunal can impose a two-year ban on both which could possibly end Shoaib’s career.
