LB by-poll schedule announced

KARACHI, Oct 16: The Election Commission (EC) has announced schedule for by-elections on 275 seats of local councils in Sindh, including 15 belonging to Karachi.

According to the Election Commission, polling will be held on November 22 for 35 Muslim general seats, 30 Muslim seats reserved for women, 12 peasants and workers seats, 49 peasant and workers seats reserved for women, and 142 minority seats, besides 5 seats of nazims and one of naib nazim.

In Karachi, the by-elections will be held for one seat of nazim (UC-G Gadap Town), six Muslim general seats, two Muslim seats reserved for women, four peasants and workers seats and two minority seats.

The elections on other vacant seats of nazims in interior Sindh will be held in UC-45 Khar, Nawabshah, UC-29 Pir Hayat Shah, UC-14 Hyderabad city, UC-9 Latifabad in Hyderabad district and UC-Kashmore II while election on the naib nazim seat will also be held in UC-45 Khar in Nawabshah.

According to the Election Commission, nominations will be received on November 2 and 3 after which a list of nominations would be released the following day and any objections to the nominations would be received on November 6. Scrutiny would be carried out on November 7 and a list of valid nominations would be published the same day. Appeals against acceptance or rejection of any nomination papers can be filed by November 8, which will be disposed of by November 10. Candidates can withdraw their nominations on November 11 while a list of final candidates, also featuring election symbols allotted to them, will be published on November 13.

The polling will be held on November 22 and results will be announced by returning officers on November 23.
